Sustainability means meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Sustainability
THE LONG-TERM IN EVERYTHING – DRIVES SUSTAINABILITY IN EVERYTHING
Our focus on long-term value creation puts sustainability at the core of our business. Unlike companies that take sharp turns to seek short-term profits, we implement policies and initiatives with long-term beneficial effects, even if this means incurring short-term costs.
By investing in and managing existing buildings, our business model is greener than those focused on new builds - two-thirds of a building's total environmental impact occurs in the construction phase, while the other third takes place over the building's life cycle. We make the most out of properties that are already built. And by signing longer leases with solvent tenants, we can work together over time to reduce carbon dioxide emissions (on which see more below).
Our long-term approach also allows us to optimise our funding, helping us grow a sustainable and successful business.
REDUCING OUR ENERGY CONSUMPTION OVER THE LONG TERM
Our focus is on responsible long-term ownership and management of our properties. Heating and electricity consumption is one of the most important areas in which we can have a direct impact. Our aim is to reduce energy consumption in the property portfolio 2% per year until 2030 in comparable portfolios with energy consumption data for the last two years.
And in properties where tenants manage their own heating and electricity, we work with them to implement economical, practical energy optimization schemes - selecting energy sources with zero or low carbon dioxide emissions and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by increasing energy efficiency. This both helps to save the planet, and helps our tenants save money.
RENEWABLE ENERGY: MAKING THE SWITCH
Switching to renewable energy is another way of reducing our climate impact and supporting our business model. We look for properties where solar panels can be installed, and work with the Swedish Energy Agency, and other relevant national bodies, to continue our shift towards renewable energy.
DOING BUSINESS SUSTAINABLY AND RESPONSIBLY
We believe that profit is not in conflict with responsible and sustainable business. Being a good employer, a good supplier, a valued customer and behaving in a responsible way by limiting our environmental impact are prerequisites for running a successful business and making strong returns for our shareholders over the long term.
And we are committed to continuously increasing our organizational competence in sustainability through training and the communication of sustainability issues.
